History and culture of Asolo hills

Not only are these gentle hills the cradle of prestigious wines like “Asolo Docg Superiore Prosecco” and “Montello Docg”, but this truly special corner of Veneto is also rich in history, art and culture. Asolo is a graceful medieval town, framed by a soft and welcoming Mediterranean scenery of olive and cypress trees and vineyards.
From the end of the fourteenth century under the dominating influence of Venice, the centre entered a period of great splendour and became a court comprising of artists, men of letters and poets from all over the world. Today, thanks to major historical figures such as the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, the poet Pietro Bembo, the Queen of Cyprus, Caterina Cornaro, the great Neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova, the English writer Robert Browning to name but a few , these enchanted hills are covered with cultural and architectural sites and ancient Renaissance villas, many now recognized as UNESCO heritage sites.
The city offers opportunities for sightseeing and walking tours, visiting the ancient walled city, artistic treasures and the various Palladian villas; a perfect combination of art, culture and gastronomic excellence.
