Soil Usable depth

The soil thickness and depth strongly influences the plant roots and how deep they grow into the ground to secure nutrients and water. As far as the depth of soil for growing vines, the area of the Asolo hills is different to that of Montello. The Montello terrain feature more deep soils, where the impermeable stone layer appears at 2-3 meters depth. The surface is prevalently made up of the so called “red soil”, typical of these hills and rich in ferrous elements.

Alternatively , the Asolo hills and their immediate surroundings have a shallow cultivable soil surface (an average depth of 1 meter), with still thinner soil layers in the south-eastern zone.
